So. Defenders dropped on Friday. I've seen the entire season already because there were only eight episodes. Note, the individual defenders had 13 episode seasons. I think they should switch that. Though I love Luke Cage and Jessica Jones and Daredevil, I could stand an eight episode season and would have loved more episodes of the full crew. You will note, that I omitted one of the heroes in my list of love and you know why.
I'm not going to spoil the series for anyone that hasn't watched yet. What I will say is, Danny Rand is the weakest link. We all know how bad the first season was. Colleen Wing was its saving grace. I will say that the fighting was better. Finn Jones had to step it up in order to play with the others and I thought he was much better. Along with the fighting, there were genuinely great moments on screen with other characters. I really like the dynamic between him and Jessica as well as Luke, which, is absolutely necessary because he and Luke will have a lot of scenes together if they follow the comics at all, and I think they have to.
Maybe the writers know that they've hit a wall with his character and were letting us know because more than a couple characters called him an idiot. He's not horrible, he's just not as strong as the other headlining actors. I saw a meme that had pictures of the four Defenders, Jessica, Matt, Luke and Claire, which I thought was brilliant. Claire is a seminal part of all four series but is still supposed to be a secondary character. But I'd rather see her in 13 episodes than to imagine seeing another 13 episodes of Iron Fist.
As the Defenders have to go and save Danny, I felt bad for thinking, ah, just leave him. How is he captured anyway? He is supposed to be the best martial artist in the world. He's the Immortal Iron Fist! he defeated a dragon! But he's winded fighting a few bad guys? We know there will be a season two for Iron Fist, and I hope they take their time and do it right this time. Hopefully, that can still be done with the actor they have.
